Virgil L. Phillips, 53, Rt. 8, Lafayette Road, died early Wednesday morning in Culver Hospital. He had been ill for three months. He was born Jan. 23, 1916, in Bedford, the son of Daniel and Ices Lawson Phillips. He was married to Catherine Manion Aug. 4, 1934, in Bedford, and made his home originally in Bedford. Mr. Phillips had lived in Crawfordsville since 1940. He was an employe of Alcoa Aluminum in Lafayette for 27 years as a die repairman. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Oak Hill Tabernacle. He also belonged to the Aluminum Workers International, Local 115. He is survived by the wife; the mother, Mrs. William Manion; four sons, Roger, Danny, Rex and Dennis, all of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Burel Grayson; one half-brother, Eddie Phillips of Portland; one half-sister, Mrs. Harley Jones of Bedford; five grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 10 half-brothers and half-sisters. Services will be held at Bright Funeral Home Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Lester Wright officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. – jlr
